Travelling

The school

Day 1

On our way to school:
We take the bus to school every day. On our first day of school I didn't actually went out as planned. Daniel wanted to accompany us on our first day at school, so we definitely would arrive good and safely. But as we take a schoolbus, Adults are not allowed on it. so we had to wait for a regular bus, one that were Daniel is admitted on. The bus came normally 10 minutes later. But no, The local buses are here exactly like 'De Lijn' (Belgian bus). It only arrived half an hour later..

On school:
We arrived at school on time and I was really happy that Daniel was with us! The school is really big, we only had to go to the International Department’ ... All the international students where there. We are with about 70 new international students. We were divided into 3 groups. A group began to try on and buy the uniform, a second group started with an English test and the last group had a conversation with Miss Clare Brown ( one of the responsible of the school ). I started with the uniform. The uniform is actually still pretty cool, especially against that of other schools (see picture below). The test, however, was of a decent level. It consisted of reading, voc and writing. The VOC was quite difficult, but what gambling can not hurt 😉 I ended 72/81 for the test. To finish we had a conversation with the responsible. Here were simply asked which courses you would like to have. After this conversation we were already home 🙂 Anna and I have been to a shopping mall to buy new school shoes. It was really nice together.

Day 2

On our way to school:
Today fortunately went according to plan. When the school bus arrived, we boarded and rode along with all other Avondale students towards school. It's actually very easy. The bus drives through the school and when we get it will not be long before we are in the International Department (I call it from now on ID).

On school:
At school we were escorted straight to the theater. We were welcomed in a very special way. Some students did for us Powhiri. This is a typical New Zealand salute. It's quite strange because we understand there namely nothing; It's all in Maori. The Hongi is quite strange. It is a way of greeting which you press each other's foreheads against each other. After this we got an explanation for an hour about what all offered by the school and where we definitely need to take into account.
Then the afternoon. It's all completely different. They do not like us a refectory where everyone sits together and eats. Nee, they just sit all together in small groups outside or inside the school. In the afternoon we had to go to the classroom. I had no timetable yet gotten here so I went along with Anna. We were together so three lesson: Drama, Photography and Music. It really adjust because their teaching is totally different than ours. After the special day we were home and we could settle everything. 🙂
